Strengthening Your Immune Function With AcupunctureHaving a healthy and strong immune system has always been important to keep well, and, rarely more so than today. For over three thousand years acupuncture has been one of the tools used in China to help fight off disease and poor health. Immune weakness is certainly a common concern in the modern world, as cancer, aids, autoimmune disease (multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, etc. ), and pandemics such as the Covid 19 constitute major health hazards for the global population. Although western medicine can be miraculous in its ability to save lives, it is particularly weak in its repertoire of natural agents to improve immunity and balance one’s physiology. The earliest known Chinese medical text, which dates back to 249 bc, compares administering medicine for diseases that have already developed to digging a well after becoming very thirsty, or making weapons after already having engaged in battle. Though able to treat illness, Chinese medicine emphasizes the importance of maintaining and promoting health by keeping body, mind and the lifestyle in balance.   Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine use acupuncture, moxibustion, gua sha, cupping, Chinese herbal medicine, diet, exercise and relaxation practices, such as meditation, to stimulate changes that keep our bodies in balance. This approach aims to achieve a higher level of functioning of the body rather than solely attacking the disease process. Modern scientific research has proven acupuncture and Chinese medicine to be extremely effective in promoting health. Recent studies in Japan and Spain looked at the various effects of acupuncture on immunological functions studied acupuncture's effect on immune function in human blood, including the activities of macrophages, neutrophils, natural killer cells, and lymphocytes, immunoglobulin production, and complement systems. The research showed how acupuncture treatment stimulated the most immune function for at least 72 hours after a single session, with the effects persisting for about one month after the end of the completed treatment. Acupuncture treatment can help the patient’s body regulate immune function while treating the underlying cause of the immune function issues. Acupuncture can reduce symptoms and speed up the healing process in the body. Acupuncture works by stimulating specific acupoints through the autonomic nervous system, causing the immune system to respond with a rise in levels...

Acupuncture for Back Pain Nearly 8 out of every 10 people will have low back pain at some point in life. Back pain is one of the top reasons people seek medical treatment. It is also the no. 1 reported reason for seeking acupuncture. The good news is chronic low back pain is one of the conditions that research suggests acupuncture may be an effective tool for treating. One recent review of 22 acupuncture studies showed that it provided short-term relief from chronic back pain. It also showed there was greater improvement in pain for people who got acupuncture compared to those who received a “sham” treatment. Other studies have found, though, that sham acupuncture can be as effective as actual acupuncture. Those studies also found that, compared to standard treatment, both actual acupuncture and sham acupuncture are more effective. How Acupuncture Appears to Help Back Pain For low back pain, a cochrane review 9 stated: thirty-five rcts covering 2861 patients were included in this systematic review. There is insufficient evidence to make any recommendations about acupuncture or dry-needling for acute low-back pain. For chronic low-back pain, results show that acupuncture is more effective for pain relief than no treatment or sham treatment, in measurements taken up to three months. The results also show that for chronic low-back pain, acupuncture is more effective for improving function than no treatment, in the short-term. Acupuncture is not more effective than other conventional and ‘alternative’ treatments. When acupuncture is added to other conventional therapies, it relieves pain and improves function better than the conventional therapies alone. However, effects are only small. Dry-needling appears to be a useful adjunct to other therapies for chronic...

Acupuncture seeks to restore the flow of positive energy throughout your body. It also claims to remove negative energy that is causing you pain. From a modern medical perspective, acupuncture stimulates various systems of your body. This may trigger a healing response. Acupuncture divides your body into a series of zones and pressure points. Acupuncture needles are inserted into different pressure points, depending on your symptoms. These needle points are usually near nerves in your body. The needle stimulates the nerves to release hormones, such as endorphins , that trigger a response from your body. This immune and circulation system stimulation is what proponents of acupuncture claim relieves migraines and tension headaches. Acupuncture treatment for migraine headaches tim h. Tanaka, ph. D.
